My boys' season came to a close yesterday. Our team was 12-6 in the regular season, earning us the two seed in a four team double elimination playoff tournament.
Our best pitcher was out of the playoffs-he went to summer camp. Our second best pitcher was in Maine for game one of the playoffs with his family. We dropped game one 6-2.
Game two saw the return of our #2 pitcher who went six innings (a complete game in Little League) earning a win in a 7-4 victory.
Game three was the heart breaker. With our # 2 guy done for the week (6 inning per week max by rule) we went to the Hotdogman's kid. He gave up three runs on a three run homer in the top of the first. The boys got 4 runs in the bottom of the first! No runs allowed in the top of two. Four more for our boys in the bottom! No runs allowed in the top of three. Two more in the bottom of the inning.
10-3 Red Sox.
Top of four the kid strikes out the first two batters he faces then loads the bases on two walks and a single. When I go to the mound to visit, his arm is hurting so I have to take him out. I have only a few pitchers left at this point. The kid I bring in walks two runs in then induces a ground ball to the third base side of the mound. Rather than flip it to third for the out, he turns and throws the ball 10 feet over the first baseman's head leaving the batter on third and clearing the bases! He walks one more in then strikes out a kid to end the inning.
10-9 Red Sox.
We get one back in the bottom of the fourth. The pitcher promptly walks the bases loaded, then walks in a run. The next kid walks in two more and I replace him. After giving up a grand slam, this kid bears down (while openly weeping on the mound) and gets three outs without giving up any more runs.
16-11 Bad Guys!
We don't score in the bottom of five, they don't score in the top of six. Still 16-11.
Bottom of six we get a pop-up to the mound, a couple of doubles, a walk, a strike out, a bunt single and another double. When the dust clears, three runs are in, there's a man on second and third with the tying run at second and the winning run (my kid) at the plate.
Here's the pitch and a DEEP DRIVE TO LEFT. The left fielder made a nifty catch. Sox lose 16-14. Tears, downtrodden faces, the works.
Bottom line: we ran out of pitching and threw the game away.
It was a bittersweet ending to my son's Little league career.
We are off to the beach tomorrow!

So its about a hundred degrees today and this guy shows up and orders two dogs, all around. Then he asks if he can take pictures of my truck.
I ask, "Why?"
He says his name is Rich and he loves hot dogs. He saw my blog online and decided to stop by. This guy has a blog called The Hot Dog Stand and he is beginning a quest to find out of the way "joints" like mine and showcase them on his site.
He told me he's got over 200 places on his list to visit and I was one of the first!
So if you want a third party opinion on the dogs at the Hot Dog Truck, check out the review he wrote about my dogs!

Our Little League team made the playoffs. We dropped game one Saturday. Since it is a double elimination tournament, the boys cannot lose another game or they face elimination. The game of baseball is about the journey, not the destination. I am reminded of this:
Romans 5:3-4
And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope.
Fired from the CIA?
This Post IS Sponsored
Michael Weston, a CIA Operative on USA Network's Burn Notice actually gets fired from the CIA!
How does this happen you may ask? Was he too intelligent?
The CIA has always been associated with intrigue, spy games and all sorts of myths about how undercover operations work. Unless you really worked there, you have no way of knowing how the agency operates.
I've got to believe its like working anywhere else. The boss is probably an arrogant jerk, there are bound to be office politics and romance. From time to time the work gets boring too.
So how does Michael get fired?
My guess is he is a spy working in some undercover operation in a foreign land. While investigating bad guys, he discovers a direct link to high ranking US government officials who are in cahoots with the bad guys. He discovers that our own government is working with the enemy and when he informs his superiors, they fire him to keep him quiet.
Another theory is that Michael is a bumbling boob who messes up everything he gets involved with. The CIA becomes a modern day "F Troop" with Michael as the Captain. Since he's so stupid, his boss fires him.
Yet another theory is that Michael is involved in a torrid office affair with the bosses' secretary. When the boss decides he wants her for himself, he fires Michael. (This scenario has some steamy possibilities!)
Whether Michael is a champion of Justice uncovering a massive conspiracy, a comical boob bungling through life in the CIA or an office Valentino boinking his way out of a job, USA Network's Burn Notice sounds interesting!
Sounds better than watching CSI re-runs all summer!
Where the Heck has the Hot Dog Man Been?!?!?
Frequent readers realize I haven't been posting much the past 2 or 3 weeks. Heck, I haven't even done any PPP whoring for cash!
The reason: Little League Baseball. As the season winds down, I tend to be at the fields every night, even when my team doesn't have a game. We begin our playoffs Saturday and will be finished with the season by the end of next week.
Coaching Little League is an all consuming endeavor for me at this time of year and it has taken me away from the blog for the time being.
Once the playoffs are over, I will return to the blog with a vengeance and hopefully some good baseball stories!

After I instructed Jeff not to be so gay while posing for pictures, he managed to peel himself away from Jared for another picture.

Kinda looks like Hot Dog Truck version of the "before" and "after" picture of Subway's famous Jared!
Once Jared and Jeff retreat to the beautiful garden patio dining area, Hans shows up!

No, not that Hans....
Here's Hans joining the happy Horizon crew in the dining room. The rest of you Horizon Technology folks ought to stop by the Hot Dog Truck for a truly visceral dining experience!

Hans showed up in a SWEET Mustang.

My 200th Post
This is my 200th Post on the Hot Dog Truck! I started this blog on February 4 2007 with this post.
I got my own URL on March 5, 2007.
I got a fancy new header on April 11, 2007.
I've ranted about spelling, ketchup, Battle of the Blogs, and even the Jury Commissioner.
I've had some good humor and some serious stuff too.
I've introduced the world to my little ditch.
I've even been interviewed.
I've started a monthly Cash Money Contest, told the world how to start a hot dog business and shared some hot dog stories.
I've shared some classic commercials and Led Zeppelin videos.
And so much more! 200 posts is a lot of posts in 4 months of blogging and its tough to keep up the volume, especially now since I do Pay Per Posts and other reviews.
As the summer brings busier times to the Hot Dog Truck, it will be harder to take pictures while working.
For everyone who has enjoyed my little bit of internet frivolity. THANK YOU FOR READING.
I will try to entertain and inform on a similarly prolific pace for the rest of the year!
If you are ever in Southborough, MA and you want the best hot dogs, stop by!

I have been fielding complaints from parents of Little Leaguers about a variety of subjects over the past few weeks. People complain about the rules, playing time for their kids, coach behavior, parent behavior, player behavior, field conditions-you name it, they complain about it! I have always tried to respond to people's complaints fairly and even handedly. My newest strategy is to fire back a copy of the following passage. The discussion and complaints usually end with this:
Matthew 7: 1,2
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you."
Spy Sweeper
Every time I view a new webpage or download something online, I worry about spyware. Even so called "legitimate" websites have spyware so they can collect data on me for their marketing efforts. Spyware can be inocuous or it can be intrusive and malicious.
I have had spyware hang up my computer many times. The worst episode was some malicious code that actually disabled my Internet Explorer! I was absolutely freaking out. It took me over three hours to isolate the problem and restore Internet Explorer's functionality. I did this manually. Whenever I start removing files manually I get scared that I'll remove something I shouldn't and cause myself worse problems. I had to do several "system restores" during the undoing of this attack. I felt so.....violated. What a nightmare!
I wish I had Spy Sweeper to prevent that attack. Spy Sweeper finds, and removes malicious spyware that has been installed on your computer so you don't have to wait for a program to crash to realize some spyware has invaded your computer. Most of the time, Spy Sweeper stops spyware from installing on your computer in the first place. Protection like this would save a ton of time and make browsing and downloading a whole lot safer.
Everyone should have some sort of spyware detedtion and removal tool for their computer. Spy Sweeper looks to be a good tool for this. I do believe I'll be checking out Spy Sweeper

Big Fan
Since I have a cathedral ceiling in my living room, my wife and I have been thinking of getting a ceiling fan. They really do a nice job of keeping the house cool and I am not a big fan of central air conditioning. Ceiling fans always remind me of the movie Casablanca for some reason. While they aren't what you'd call "elegant," I'll settle for the comfort they provide.
I had ceiling fans in my first house. Too bad the grasping, money grubbing bitch (that would be my ex-wife) got that house! I remember when we moved in there was an ancient Nutone Ceiling Fan in the den. It was so old but it still worked. We replaced it because it just didn't look right after we remodelled and repainted. We replaced it with a Modern Fan Company fan because we liked the modern look. My friend got it for us wholesale since his company was a stocking distributor at the time.
I put the ceiling fan up at my old house, but my zeal for "do it yourself" projects has waned as the years have passed, so I'll probably call someone in to hang the ceiling fans this time.
Spooky Stuff
THIS POST IS SPONSORED
All the talk about the new 1408 Movie with John Cusak got me thinking about a spooky event from my past.
I have always believed in ghosts. I have a friend who lives in a haunted house. The house is over 150 years old and was built from old granite salvaged from a prison. They are always hearing strange noises throughout the house. They hear footsteps going up to the third floor sometimes and the sound of keys in the door to the attic.
The story is that a little girl who lived in the house back in the 1920's drowned when she was 8 or 9 years old. There is a drawing she made in a closet on the third floor. They believe her spirit walks in the house and travels to the third floor attic room that was once her playroom. They've never actually seen anything, but as I said, they often hear noises.
I was at this house once about ten years ago just after my friend and his family moved in. He and his wife were giving me the tour and telling me about the house's history as we entered his son's bedroom. Once we were in his son's room (he was 7 at the time) we heard the sound of the keys rattling on the third floor. We all got freaked out and they started to tell me the story of the little girl.
As they told the story, the sound of the keys stopped and we thought we heard footsteps on the attic stairs. All of a sudden, a large transformer robot on a shelf in their son's room flew off the shelf as if it had been swept off by an invisible hand!
I couldn't wait to get out of that room! I couldn't believe what was happening. I told my friend and his wife I wouldn't have the balls to live there. Since then they've had numerous similar "encounters" and they still hear the keys and footsteps on a regular basis. They have been featured in several "haunted house" magazine and newspaper features over the past ten years. Their son, who just graduated high school and is off to college in the fall, always thought it was cool to have their very own ghost!
I've been back to their house many times in the past ten years for parties and such, but I've never heard or seen anything like that first time again. Even so, I for one wouldn't be able to live in a place like that!
Now this is a creepy story, but not as creepy as the 1408 Movie looks.

YIKES!
It's All About the Oil and the Extremists
CyberCelt, a reader of the Hot Dog Truck left a link to this article in a comment recently. I thought hot dog lovers would like to read it, so I am putting it up here. The truth is often ugly:
This president and vice president have vowed to repeat the mistakes of history, and they have put into motion a plan to do just that in Iran, even as the House is about to send the president a box of blank checks for Iraq, against the will of the American people.
The history is worth knowing.
In 1953, the United States and United Kingdom launched Operation Ajax, a covert CIA operation to destabilize and remove the democratically elected government of Iran, including then Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh.
Why? Oil.
Under Mossadegh, the Iranian government decided to reclaim Iran's rightful ownership of its national oil treasure, which had been exclusively controlled by the British who were taking 85 percent of the profits.
Oh, and by the way, the U.K. also kept the books secret, merely telling Iran what its 15 percent take was.
As soon as Mossadegh began to reclaim Iran's oil treasure, it was all over. Operation Ajax was set into motion.
The U.S. embassy in Tehran provoked phony internal Iranian dissent, while the Brits engineered an Iranian financial crisis by orchestrating a global boycott of Iranian oil. We brought down the Iranian government and installed the Shah.
For two decades, we propped up the Shah against the will of the Iranian people. It was all about controlling Iran. It still is. Today, ABC News is reporting exclusively that this president has authorized a new covert CIA plot to bring down the Iranian government.
I ask unanimous consent to enter into the record the journalism produced by chief investigative reporter Brian Ross and Richard Esposito of ABC News.
This is their lead sentence in the story.
"The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert 'black' operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com."
We’re back in 1953, and that worked out so well.
Of course, the vice president wanted to invade Iran, so we can be sure he will spin new tales of fear in coming days to keep his preferred option, invasion, very much alive.
The president knows only one way -- my way or the highway.
His vice president knows only one way -- invade and seize control of what you want -- and he wants the oil treasure of Iraq and Iran to become wholly owned subsidiaries of the western oil companies he so favors.
With Iraq in civil war, the president has authorized a secret plan to repeat the doomed mistakes of history in Iran.
How many billions of reconstruction money for Iraq will be siphoned off for the deconstruction of Iran?
The American people are virtually shouting at us to pay attention and get our soldiers out of Iraq, now.
Vast sums of U.S. taxpayer money are flowing into Iraq and billions of U.S. dollars are missing.
The special inspector for Iraq reconstruction told a San Antonio newspaper last week that corruption in Iraq is endemic and debilitating.
But, Prime Minister al-Maliki has granted ministers and former ministers immunity from prosecution by Iraq’s Commission on Public Integrity.
And, in turn, the ministers can shield their own employees from prosecution.
And, a government that has been told by this president and vice president to pass an oil law that transfers control -- and profits -- to Western oil companies, just like the good old days in Iran.
Overthrowing Iran in 1953 was all about oil. Invading Iraq was all about oil. And the new secret plot against Iran is all about oil.
Oil is the only benchmark this president and vice president want, and they will keep American soldiers fighting and dying until an oil law is passed in Iraq that gives Western oil companies control of the spigot.
It is time to unmask the latest doomed plot to overthrow Iran and past time to get out soldiers out of Iraq.
Nothing less than protecting our troops is acceptable.
Rep. Jim McDermott
God bless you, Rep. McDermott! Let us bring our young people home, alive. It is an atrocity that we are sacrificing yet ANOTHER generation to the god of oil.
AND in the interest of presenting an alternate point of view, here is the text from a recent speech by Joe Liebermann, Senator from Connecticut:
Thank you so much for that kind introduction. It is a pleasure to be here among so many friends.
Now, I know there are some who are probably wondering -what is a nice Independent Democrat from Connecticut doing at a Republican event like this?
Well, a funny thing happened on the way to reelection last
year. And as Rabbi Hillel said, the rest is commentary.
In all seriousness, many of you in this room stood with me
last year through the long journey up a winding road that was my 2006
reelection campaign. You came to my side without regard for party
affiliation, and you stayed there even after I ran as an Independent but
said I would caucus with the Democrats. Your non-partisanship in my race
is a model for what our politics should be. I thank you personally and deeply
for it. I could not have won without it.
And I pledge to you that I will do everything I can to
vindicate your confidence.
We gather at a critical time for the future of our country.
The war in Iraq has now become the defining issue for this Congress and
for this presidency-although the decisions we will make in the weeks and
months ahead about Iraq will have consequences that reach far beyond the terms of
anyone now in office.
Part of the disagreement we face over Iraq comes down to a
genuine difference of opinion.
On the one hand, there are those who believe, as I do, that
the struggle against Islamist extremism really is the central challenge of
our time, and that, as General David Petraeus -our commander in
Iraq-recently said, Iraq is now the central front of the war against
Islamist extremism.
On the other hand, there are those who reject this view -who
genuinely believe that the threat of Islamist extremism is overstated, or
that Iraq is a distraction from the "real" war on terror, or that the war
there is lost, or not worth fighting to win.
It is my deeply held conviction that these people are not
only wrong, they are disastrously wrong -and that the withdrawal they
demand would be a moral and security catastrophe for the United States, for Iraq,
and for the entire Middle East, including Israel and our moderate Arab
allies.
Let there be no doubt-an American defeat in Iraq would be a
victory for Al Qaeda and Iran. the two most threatening enemies we face in
the world today. It would vindicate the hope of our enemies that America
is weak and that we can be driven to retreat by terrorism, and it would
confirm the fear of our friends -not only in Iraq, but throughout the world -that
we are unreliable allies who will abandon them in the face of danger.
The fact of the matter is, you cannot claim to be tough on
terrorism while demanding that our military withdraw from Iraq, because it
is the terrorists, in -particular Al Qaeda, -that our military is fighting
in Iraq.
You cannot claim to be committed to defeating Al Qaeda,
while demanding that we abandon the heart of the Middle East to Al Qaeda.
And you cannot claim to be tough on Iran, while demanding
the very thing that the mullahs want most of all, -the retreat of the
American military from the Middle East in defeat, leaving a vacuum that
Iran will rush to fill.
I recognize that this war has been controversial, and there
are those who oppose it on principle. I respect that.
But too much of the debate we are having today about
withdrawal from Iraq has little or nothing to do with principle, or with
reality in Iraq.
It is about politics and partisanship here in Washington.
For many Democrats, if President Bush is for it, they must
be against it. If the war is going badly, it is bad for Republicans and it
is good for Democrats. It is as simple as that, and it is as wrong as
that.
For many Republicans, the unpopularity of this war and this
President has begun to shake their will. They say that they have no choice
but to abandon General Petraeus and his strategy because the American
people tell the pollsters they want out. If previous generations of American
leaders had allowed their conduct of war to be shaped by partisanship or
public opinion polls, we would not be the strong and free nation we are
blessed to be today.
Republicans in Congress delude themselves if they think they
will be helping either themselves, their party, or their country if they
now attempt to wash their hands of Iraq, out of a sudden sense of political
anxiety.
Democrats in Congress delude themselves if they think they
will not be held accountable for the bloody consequences of the retreat
from Iraq they seek.
The fact is, a loss to Al Qaeda and Iran in Iraq would be
devastating to our security. These are fateful days and critical decisions
we are making about Iraq. We must make them with our eye on the safety of
America's next generation, not the outcome of America's next election.
It is to the everlasting credit of President Bush that in
the war against Islamist extremism he has shown the courage and
steadfastness to stand against the political passions of the moment.
I have never hesitated to express disagreement with the
President on any issue when I felt he was wrong-and I have criticized his
administration many times for the serious mistakes I believe it made in
prosecuting the war in Iraq.
But let me tell you this: I believe that each of us should
be grateful that we have a commander-in-chief who does not believe that
decisions about war should be driven by poll numbers. And each of us
should be grateful that we have a commander-in-chief who does not confuse what is
popular with what is right for our security as a nation. The public
opinion polls may not reflect this today, but I believe history will tomorrow.
My friends, as Ronald Reagan once said, now is the time for
choosing.
If we stand united through the months ahead, if we stand
firm against the terrorists who want to drive us to retreat, the war in
Iraq can be won and the lives of millions of people can be saved.
But if we surrender to the barbarism of suicide bombers and
abandon the heart of the Middle East to fanatics and killers, to Al Qaeda
and Iran, then all that our men and women in uniform have fought, and died
for, will be lost, and we will be left a much less secure and free nation.
That is the choice we in Washington will make this summer
and this fall. It is a choice not just about our foreign policy and our
national security and our interests in the Middle East. It is about what
our political leaders in both parties are prepared to stand for. It is about
our very soul as a nation. It is about who we are, and who we want to be.
Will this be the moment in history when America gives
up-when Al Qaeda breaks our will, when our enemies surge forward, when we
turn our backs on our friends and begin a long retreat from our principles
and promise as a nation?
Or will this be the moment when America steps forward, when
we pull together, when we hold fast to the courage of our convictions,
when -with a new strategy, and a new commander on the ground -we begin to turn
the tide toward victory in this long and difficult war?
I know that we can rise above the anger and smallness of our
politics. I know we can rise to the greatness that this moment demands of
us.
The question is-will we choose to do so?
I would like to close today by sharing with you a story from
my last visit to Iraq a few months ago. It was in Anbar province in
western Iraq-the center of the insurgency-a part of the country that conventional
wisdom last year dismissed as hopeless.
In fact, on September 11, 2006, the Washington Post ran a
front-page story reporting that even the chief of Marine Corps
intelligence in Iraq had concluded that Anbar was "lost," and our position there was
"beyond repair."
I was in Anbar last December, on a forward operating base
just outside Ramadi, the capital of the province. As one of the briefings
with our military commanders ended, a colonel who had been sitting in the
back of the room came up to me. He said something that I carry with me to
this day-something that I hope you will carry with you as well.
He said: "Sir, I want you to know on behalf of the soldiers
in my unit and myself that we believe in why we are fighting here, we want
to finish this fight. And we know we can win it."
Today, five months later, Anbar has been dramatically
transformed. Thanks to the bravery, ingenuity, and commitment of our men
and women in uniform, shops and schools have reopened, Al Qaeda is on the run,
thousands of Iraqis have joined the local police, and-yes-no less than the
New York Times reports that we have turned the corner there.
My friends, now is not the time for despair. Now is the time
for resolve.
Now is not the time for reflexive partisanship and pandering
to public opinion. Now is the time for the kind of patriotism and
principle America's voters have always honored.
I ask you to plead with every member of Congress you can in
the days and weeks ahead-
Do not surrender to hopelessness.
Do not succumb to defeat.
Do not give in to fear.
Rise above the political pressures of the moment to do what
is right for America.
Believe, like that colonel, in why we are fighting in Iraq,
and know, as he and his soldiers know, that we can and must win there.

This is what I tell my Little Leaguers:
Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
Cash Money Contest Result!
A while ago I published and announced my CASH MONEY CONTEST where folks could guess the dollar amount of the Hot Dog Truck Operator's Relief Fund and win half of the money in the bucket!
The contest ended May 31, so I took the Hot Dog Truck Operator's Relief Fund bucket to the Coinstar Machine today.
And the total was $97.49.
The closest guess was $142.88 by Mr. Livewyre of Munny for Hunny. Unfortunately, his guess was over the total so he DOES NOT WIN. He guessed a tad high, this time. Since I raised my prices a few months ago, I get more "folding money" in the bucket than change. I remove all folding money every day. I used to get more change in the bucket when my prices weren't round dollar amounts. C'est la vie!
I am going to make this a monthly contest from now on. The PRIZE FOR THIS CONTEST will be ONE HALF of what is contained in the "Hot Dog Truck Operator's Relief Fund" as of the end of each month! You will need to guess the total amount of cash in the bucket without going over. Whoever is closest to the total amount without going over (can you tell I've watched the Price is Right) will win the cash! (I will actually send a money order but "cash" sounds so much better...) The "Fund" is pictured below. Hopefully the other objects in the picture will give you an idea of the size of the container. FYI it holds 5 pounds of Tuna Salad.
You are probably asking yourself, "hey, hotdogman, what do I have to do to enter the contest?" Well here's the deal:
You must announce my contest on your blog in a post and you must link both the contest post page with the phrase "CASH MONEY CONTEST" and the main page of my blog with the phrase "BEST HOT DOGS." Then email me at hotdogman@thehotdogtruck.com with the link to your post, AND your guess for the total amount in the "Fund" without going over. At the end of each month, I'll pop by the Coinstar machine, cash in the bucket and see who won. I will announce the winner on the Blog and contact the winner via email to arrange sending a money order.
ENTER TODAY!
Catchy tune
Yet another campy, old intermission short. I just LOVE these old commercials/trailers. I have collected about 80 of them and I'll keep 'em coming. No hot dogs in this one, but a catchy little tune!
