A Hot Dog a Day Number 19: Jeannie's Weenies in Holliston

July 19th's stop on my journey to eat a hot dog a day in honor of National Hot Dog Month was an old favorite- Jeannie's Weenies, on the corner of Chestnut Street and route 16 in Holliston, Massachusetts.

The "open" flag was flying, so I pulled in.

Jeannie's Weenies is run by the husband and wife team of Bruce and Jeannie Farago. They have a combined 37 years of restaurant experience and last year they decided to parlay all that know how into opening Holliston's only hot dog cart. Bruce runs the cart and slings the dogs while Jeannie does the books, marketing and catering. When she's not running her hot dog business, she tends bar at Casey's Pub in Holliston.

It's a cute little cart- a Ben's Big Dog cart to be exact. Bruce believes hot dogs taste better from a hot dog cart and he has customers who stop just for the cart.

It's self service on the condiments at Jeannie's Weenies, unless you get chili or cheese.

The customers were in high spirits on this gorgeous summer day. This guy wants to be a model for the next generation of Uncle Sam posters.

This guy joked around while waiting for his chili dogs. He said his camera shy friend wouldn't get his picture taken because he's in the witness protection program. He was kidding.... I think.

These guys made sure the dogs weren't hot. The hot dogs at Jeannies Weenies are the hottest around.

Here's my hot dog. Jeannie's Weenies serves up an Old Neighborhood frank on a steamed, split top roll. Bruce makes the hottest dogs around- and they have a real good snap too. Condiments include chili, cheese sauce, yellow and brown mustard, ketchup (don't get me started), relish, onions, and red pepper relish. I made one all around and...

CHOWED DOWN!

I think Bruce is right- hot dogs DO taste better from a hot dog cart; especially when it's from Jeannie's Weenies. I see five thumbs up in this picture- it would have been six, but I didn't want to drop my hot dog!

When you're in Holliston going down route 16, stop at Jeannie's Weenies and tel Bruce and Jeannie "the Hotdogman sent me."

HAPPY NATIONAL HOT DOG MONTH!

A Hot Dog a Day Number Fourteen: C and R Hot Dogs in Holliston, MA

On July 14, I headed down route 16 to a favorite stop of mine in Holliston: C and R Hot Dogs- home of the $5 lunch special.

C and R Hot Dogs is located at 459B Washington St, Holliston, MA in a small strip mall.

Owner Carl Damigella is proud of his tee shirt collection. He displays hundreds of tee shirts given to him by customers in the shop. Today he had a surprise for me...

He had a commemorative tee shirt made for my National Hot Dog Month tour!
Thanks Carl!

The menu features hot dogs. There are over 40 topping choices including three kinds of mustard, shredded cheese, squeeze cheese, chili, peppers, my favorite secret sauce and more. You can really have it your way at C and R Hot Dogs. They also serve chicken salad, seafood salad, stuffed baked potatoes, soup (in the winter) and ice cream.

There's lots of fun and funky stuff in the shop, including this hot dog cut out.

Here's a couple of Firehouse Dogs: Kayem Old Tyme franks topped with chili, cheese Tabasco habenero sauce, crushed red pepper, red hots, and jalapeno peppers. That's a five alarm lunch!

Here are Frank's franks- two Secret Dogs. The Secret Dog is my favorite; it has C and R's "secret sauce," mayonnaise, and celery salt.

And here's Frank eating one of his franks.

Frank's buddy, Matt Thomasz- a local painting and papering contractor- announced he wanted to attempt to break the C and R hot dog eating record. C and R has a running contest: if you can break the record by eating more than the current benchmark (10 hot dogs) in eight minutes, the hot dogs are free, you get a tee shirt, a framed commemorative certificate and your name and photo are placed on the wall as the reigning champ. Here's a box of ten hot dogs waiting for the starting gun.

Matt chomps into the first dog....

Did he make it? Check out the video on Hot Dog Stories to find out!

After the excitement from Matt died down, I ordered up the 14th hot dog of my month long journey- a Secret Dog. Looks yummy....

Time to
CHOW DOWN!

It WAS yummy- it's my favorite hot dog at C and R.

Stop by C and R Hot Dogs and grab a Secret Dog, or make up your own combo. Make sure you tell them "the Hotdogman" sent me.

HAPPY NATIONAL HOT DOG MONTH!
