A NEW Question

Last year at Affiliate Summit I had a lot of fun roaming around, asking people THE QUESTION: "Do you put ketchup on your hot dogs?"

I shot an amusing video of my results.

I'll be asking this question again, but I will try not to do any "repeats."

I have ANOTHER question for show attendees that is sure to yield some amusing results. I'll be shooting video and compiling a collection of the best answers. When It's all done, I'll have the video up on RobMerlino.Com.

What's the question? You'll find out in Las Vegas!

An Affiliate Summit East Album

Affiliate Summit East 2012 has come and gone. When I go to Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas, I fly. For a trip to New York from Boston, I use somewhat more "basic" transportation.

Despite all the jokes about the company, Fung Wah Bus is the best deal around for getting to New York City. At only $30 round trip, it costs less than one night of parking in New York!

I left at 6:30 AM and promptly dozed off. When I woke up, the New York City skyline greeted me!

Here's a view of downtown.

Fung Wah Bus lands in New York's Chinatown.

The sights and smells were tempting. There was so much delicious food everywhere, I was tempted to hang around!

I made my way to Grand Street Station to grab the D train uptown.

I haven't been on the New York City Subway in 25 years! It hasn't changed much.

The endpoint for my train was Coney Island. I'll admit, I was tempted.....

I got off right out in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater. I don't think Letterman was taping today.

I snapped this picture of the iconic Carnegie Deli. Once again, I was tempted!

I fought off the urge for a corned beef on rye and made my way to The New York Hilton, where Affiliate Summit was taking place.

I checked in and cruised the exhibit hall for a few minutes.

Then it was off to the Blogger's Lounge where I met up with my friend and Shark Tank Blog partner, Kirk Taylor.

John Chow was there too, sans the "I'm John Chow, Bitch" tee shirt. A bit later, I cruised the exhibit floor with John and filmed his shenanigans for him.

I had made arrangements to meet up with Nick Loeb, founder of Onion Crunch. He was one of the sponsors of the National Hot Dog Month 2012 Tour.

I scouted a hot dog cart near the Hilton, so we headed over there for a hot dog. New York city has more people in the hot dog business per square mile than anywhere in the USA!

Of course, some CHOWING DOWN ensued!

We both liked the hot dogs, probably because they were loaded with Onion Crunch! I did a Hot Dog Story on our lunch too.

Troy Landry, King of the Swamp from the TV show Swamp People, was a guest in the exhibit hall, so I posed for a picture and made a video.

Then I conducted my round table discussion on using Mass Media to Drive Blog Traffic. Zac Johnson and Moneca Yardley were among the attendees.

After that, it was back on the Fung Wah to Boston. Next up, Mrs. Hotdogman and I go Hot Doggin' in Maine!

Troy Landry, The King of the Swamp meets the Hotdogman

I went to Affiliate Summit East in New York. I was a speaker at a round table discussion on using Mass Media to drive web traffic.

Part of the Affiliate Summit experience is the exhibit hall where all kinds of vendors and service providers gather to pitch their wares to affiliates and publishers like myself.

One of the honchos at CPAway.com is a big fan of the TV show Swamp People, so they arranged to have Troy Landry, the King of the Swamp, greet people at their booth for a couple of hours on Monday.

I like the show, so I was psyched to meet him. I asked him "the question" too....

The Hotdogman in New York City for Affiliate Summit East

I have attended Affiliate Summit West for the past two years, and I plan to attend in 2013. This is my first trip to Affiliate Summit East. It's at the New York Hilton in mid town Manhattan.

Since it's summer, I find it hard to drag myself away from the beach for "dreary old Manhattan," so I am making a day trip to New York on Monday, August 13. I have a "surprise guest" planned for a Hot Dog Story; I will be dining on New York "street meat" somewhere near the conference site.

I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon meeting with my business partner, Kirk Taylor, and cruising the exhibit hall.

I will be speaking at a round table discussion at 5PM on Leveraging Mass Media to drive blog traffic. So if you want to meet me in New York, that's where I will be on Monday!

An Interview With the Hotdogman

Back in January, I attended Affiliate Summit West. I had a blast cruising the conference floor asking folks "The Question." One of my victims was Bryan Knowlton from YourBossBlows.com. He answered correctly! In fact he liked what I was doing so much, he decided to interview me.

Bryan is a bit of a procrastinator, so he just posted the video today. Check it out for some insight into the life and times of The Hotdogman.

The Hotdogman on Geek Dad's Weekly

Last week, I had the honor of being on the nationally podcast show, "Geek Dad's Weekly," with Daniel M. Clark and Andrew Bennet of the Benspark blog. Each week, a panel of dads gets together and talks about the issues of the day. Last week we talked about hot dogs, video cameras, New England life, business ethics, Affiliate Summit, Affiliate Improv, and camping with kids. You can listen to the podcast below.

The Hotdogman on JohnChowdotCom

The Hotdogman still has a ton of video to edit from ASW 2012. Unfortunately, the Hotdogman has a hernia too! After two days of poking and prodding, surgery is scheduled a couple weeks from today. I'll be back at the computer tomorrow, but for now enjoy this video- featuring yours truly- on JohnChowDotCom.
