This is a classic from 1973. My fourth grade class actually performed this song for a school chorus assembly and we got a standing ovation! Ya gotta love show tune style advertising!

I love these old drive in movie ads. Nowadays this family would be dining at the mall and going to the Cinemaplex for a film.

Where do Hot Dogs come from?
There are always lots of questions as to where hot dogs come from. Some say they come from scraps, fat or "lips and asses." The true answer is it depends on what type of hot dog you purchase.
Imagine my surprise when I found out hot dogs actually grow on trees, as evidenced in this video.

Real Men of Genius: the "Foot Long"
I love these "Real Men of Genius" Bud Lite commercials in general. This one is particularly poignant for broadcast on the Hot Dog Truck. While I don't serve "foot longs," their inclusion in the lexicon of hot dog lore can't be ignored.
Just Don't Call me Johnson
With the Super Bowl on tomorrow, there will be a whole new crop of funny ads to laugh at. The beer ads are usually the funniest. This ad from the 70's for Anheiser Busch Natural Light was an instant classic. I remember people going around saying "you can call me Ray..." all the time. I had a customer once named Ray-Jay after the commercial!

In the days before EBAY
In my youth, the drive in movie theatres typically hosted giant flea markets on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I guess it was a way for the theater operators to increase revenue. These film shorts were common viewing before the movie got started. I guess this is what people did with their old junk before eBay came around! Note the announcer's statement about "anyone with a garage or closet full of goodies can be a weekend money maker."

There are many clever ads for hot dogs (and lots of other things) out there. There are ads that make you think. There are ads that make you laugh. There are ads that have fantastic special effects. Creative people spend countless hours making good advertisements.
What were they thinking when they made this one?

How to Build a Playmate
One of the benefits of having 5 kids in the house is there's always someone to play with. Whether its a video game tournament on a rainy day, a pick up basketball or soccer game, a whiffle ball game or even a game of four square, there's never the complaint "I have no one to play with." The kid in this video isn't so lucky-but he decides to do something about it. This is a very clever and funny video!

We saw Fred and Barney puffing away the other day. The 'Stones did quite a few promos when they were in prime time. Here's an ad for regular cancer check-ups. Maybe the Doctor should tell them to lay off the Winstons....

My how times have changed! Remember a few years back when everyone was freaking out about the "Joe Camel" ads that consumer advocates felt were targeted towards kids? They felt the cartoon character made smoking look acceptable to kids and that just wouldn't fly. Camel pulled the ad campaign under a lot of pressure.
I wonder what would happen if they tried to air THIS AD today?
