Blog Your Blessing Sunday LXXXIV

This is one of my favorites. It's also the inspiration for the great song by the Byrds "Turn Turn Turn."

With pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring training this week, I have a heightened sense of the turning of the year. Given the current state of the world, it is especially poignant.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

The Bible is, like the rest of the world we live in, full of beauty and inspiration. It is also full of vengeance and wrath. Take care in the way you may live your life, lest this fate await you.

Ezekiel 7: 7-9

Doom has come upon you—you who dwell in the land. The time has come, the day is near; there is panic, not joy, upon the mountains. I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you; I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. I will not look on you with pity or spare you; I will repay you in accordance with your conduct and the detestable practices among you. Then you will know that it is I the LORD who strikes the blow.

Luke 5:39

And no one, after drinking old wine wishes for new; for he says, 'The old is good enough.'

Today I am off to the LAST RED SOX GAME of the regular season. It is a meaningless game for the Sox as they've clinched the AL East already but Fenway will be electric with the anticipation of the playoffs. They also give a car away on the last game of the season so I have a 1 in 37,000 (give or take) chance of winning it.

Before dashing off for an afternoon of baseball hysteria, I'll take a moment to reflect on the importance of spreading roots:

Job 14:7

For there is hope for a tree, when it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And its shoots will not fail.

Ecclesiastes 7: 21

Also, do not take seriously all words which are spoken, so that you will not hear your servant cursing you.

Aint this the truth!

Ecclesiastes 11: 10

So, remove grief and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.

The NFL and my New England Patriots return today (OK, so Indy played Thursday). There will be much rejoicing.

Ecclesiastes 8: 15

So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.

This will be the first in a series of Link Love Thursday posts. The idea is to spread some links around the blogoshphere and see what happens! I totally stole this idea from Kuanyin who promoted my Hot Dog List on her Art of Living and Dying blog's Link Love Thursday post last week. So I am in!

This week I am going to spread the link love to some regular visitors from Blog Your Blessings Sunday.

Blue Panther this guy started the Blog Your Blessings Sunday Blogroll-you can Join HERE

Gone Fishing! Back late Sunday so I am posting this early. Have a good Sunday.

Proverbs 24: 3,4

By wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
And by knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.

Proverbs 3 (The Rewards of Wisdom): 13-15

How blessed is the man who finds wisdom
And the man who gains understanding.
For her profit is better than the profit of silver
And her gain better than fine gold.
She is more precious than jewels;
And nothing you desire compares with her.

*my wife particularly revels in the fact that wisdom is a "she"

The Proverbs are wonderful reading. Poignant, relevant and timelessly sound.

Proverbs 26:1

Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest,
So honor is not fitting for a fool.

It has been an oppressively hot week. Hard to work in the truck, bad sleeping weather, the works. I have been sweating for four days!

Psalm 19:6

Its rising is from one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

It helps to remember the things that last.

Ecclesiastes 9:11

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.

Even at the height of summer, thoughts of the coming autumn's business crowd my mind. I am always planning something. I am thankful I have the help from my family, particularly the children I so endlessly plan for.

Our Little League team made the playoffs. We dropped game one Saturday. Since it is a double elimination tournament, the boys cannot lose another game or they face elimination. The game of baseball is about the journey, not the destination. I am reminded of this:

Romans 5:3-4

And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope.

I have been fielding complaints from parents of Little Leaguers about a variety of subjects over the past few weeks. People complain about the rules, playing time for their kids, coach behavior, parent behavior, player behavior, field conditions-you name it, they complain about it! I have always tried to respond to people's complaints fairly and even handedly. My newest strategy is to fire back a copy of the following passage. The discussion and complaints usually end with this:

Matthew 7: 1,2

"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you."
