African Hunting Safari

I do a lot of fishing. I've only been hunting twice in my life and I never even shot the gun. I do like venison and I'd bag a deer if I had the opportunity. I eat meat and I won't apologize to anyone for it, even my vegetarian 14 year-old. I like meat.

For those who think hunting is cruel, hunting, killing and eating a deer is a lot more ecologically responsible than buying some rib-eyes at the market and in many cases reduces an over crowded population that can become a public health threat. Deer are way over populated in my area.

I'm not so sure about trophy hunting though. I did see a special on the Science Channel that presented a strong argument for trophy hunting in Africa. Its premise was trophy hunting has economic benefits to poor African communities and, when properly managed, helps prevent overcrowding by certain species. An African hunting safari, sounds cruel and it may be, but it's something I'd like to do.

I don't know if I could shoot an animal that I wasn't going to eat, but I'd love to go on an African hunting safari nonetheless. I think I'd bring my camera instead of my gun though!
