Mystery Man

One of the cool things about working at home and making money online is I get the opportunity to do things I wouldn't be able to do if I was closed up in an office somewhere, like go to Little Miss' school and be a mystery reader.

A mystery reader is a mom or dad of a kindergartner who, unbeknownst to their child, comes into the classroom as a mystery guest and reads the kids a story or two. I have performed this duty for all of my other 4 kids at one point or another. I try to volunteer at my kids' schools whenever I can, up to a point.

I enjoy doing the mystery reader gig. The kids get a kick out of it, too. Curious George Gets a Job from our Complete Adventures of Curious George book that has entertained my kids for over fifteen years. I pretty much have the story memorized and I know it so well, I do complete voice characterizations for each of the characters. This will mark the fifth and, most likely, final time I will be reading this story in public, so I'll be sure to really ham it up for the kids.

As an added bonus, about half of Little Miss' class is on our Tee Ball team, so I will be sure to get some "coach points" too. Once I get back to teaching, I won't be able to take the time to do these sorts of things, so I will be sure to savor the experience.
