The final "sports monkey" is off Boston's back for the now eleven year old new Millennium. The Bruins had become the Red Sox of old: always in it, but never able to finish it and win it all. While their level of futility paled in comparison to the Sox, the similarities were definitely there.
To put things in perspective, the last time the Bruins won the Stanley Cup, I watched the game on a 19 inch, black and white TV!
Boston has been so nutty for the Bruins over the past few months, hardly anyone has noticed the Red Sox have stormed into first place. The Sox aren't getting the TV or radio coverage they usually get at this time of year: it's been Bruins, Bruins, Bruins.
Now it will be time for parades and celebrations and real HOPE for Boston Bruins hockey next year and in years to come.
Thanks for a great year, Bruins. We won't miss that monkey!
