Fans of this site and Hot Dog Stories will be familiar with Larry Joe's New England Fire Pit in Bellingham. This place has absolutely ridiculous hot dogs- a half pound, hickory smoked, barbecue sauce basted Pearl hot dog that will surely ruin your dinner (and possibly the next day's breakfast). Each dog comes with a choice of seven toppings, a history lesson and, if you're lucky, a tune on the electric piano Larry keeps in his trailer.
Here's a little tune Larry and I performed on my visit for National Hot Dog month:
Sir Lawrence of Frankfurter won't be dishing it out in his usual spot in Bellingham this Saturday- August 6. He's taking his show on the road to the Rose Car Show. The show's proceeds go to the DJR Scholarship Fund, named after David Jeffrey Rose Jr, an auto enthusiast who attended Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. David passed away in 2006 and his friends and family have organized this car show for the past few years to honor his life and to raise money for the scholarship.
According to the Rose Car Show Website:
"A Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School in the auto tech field, which has been awarded since 2007. Applicants must provide a brief essay displaying a passion for automobiles and what makes them “tick”, along with a letter of recommendation from either a faculty member or an employer. Class position is not important, the scholarship can either be used to buy tools or to further ones education. The recipient is chosen from all applicants by the Scholarship fund board of directors and the Rose family. The Current award is $500, along with this award we are currently giving to all graduating members of the senior class in auto tech, a snap-on ratcheting screw driver. This is arranged through the school snap-on representative and paid for with monies from the scholarship fund. The scholarship is funded by donations and monies raised through the annual Rose Car Show."
Larry Joe, good hearted fellow that he is, is chipping in and rolling the Fire Pit down to the show in Upton on Saturday. So if you're in the area and you're in the mood for hot dogs and cool cars, head on down to Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School
65 Pleasant Street, Upton, MA this Saturday.
Tell Larry Joe "the Hotdogman sent me."
